(Apr 19, 2022). National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) lauds PLDT Group's Tower Sharing Landmark Deal

Commissioner Gamaliel A. Cordoba, when asked to comment of the PLDT Group’s Tower Sharing deal, responded as follows:

“I welcome the announcement of the landmark Tower Sharing deal between the PLDT Group with ISOC EDOTCO Towers, Inc., a subsidiary of the Edotco Group, and Comworks Infratech Corp., a subsidiary of the EdgePoint Group (the “TowerCos”). The Edotco Group and the EdgePoint Group will bring global best practices and technologies in operating telco tower infrastructure nationwide and is a much-awaited development for NTC since it would translate into better connectivity for telco subscribers and ensure higher resilience and faster recovery from typhoons and other calamities.”

The significant outcome of this deal is widespread connectivity for Filipinos as the towers will be open for co-use by all telcos and internet service providers (ISPs). This will make more investible funds available for other critical operating components for telcos and ISPs as they realize the economies that infrastructure sharing will offer. Commissioner Cordoba emphasized that this will allow telcos like the PLDT Group to invest more money into technology and infrastructure that will benefit Filipinos. Commissioner Cordoba views the investment as a vote of confidence of the Edotco Group and the EdgePoint Group in the Philippine economy.
