Here is another cool GPS tracking device called the "ATLAS+ Trip Recorder", it is a complete solution to record or track trips accurately. This is intended to be used as a verification tool by companies to record, review and analyze trips made by company vehicles (such as delivery trucks) or company personnel (such as messengers, drivers, sales people & field engineer). It can also be used personally to track your kids, family members or friends.

What's inside the box?

The package contains the following items:
  • ATLAS+ Trip Recorder GPS Unit
  • Lithium Ion battery
  • Trip Replay Software CD plus the drivers
  • USB cable
  • AC Charger
  • Users manual
  • Weatherproof pouch

Build and Quality
The ATLAS+ Trip Recorder has a hard black plastic build and feels sturdy enough for everyday use. It is also very compact light and small to carry around, in fact you can place it on the belt of the user for easy use. The top part has the 3 LED lights for status indicator, button and the logo.

 The 3 LED lights means:
  • BLUE - Battery Life Status LED
  • YELLOW: Battery Charging Status LED
  • RED - GPS Status LED / POI Marker

The first side (top image) has the USB port for syncing with the PC and for the charging. The second side has the ON/OFF sliding button.

The ATLAS+ Trip Recorder comes with a rechargeable battery which can be charged via USB to computer or to a smartphone charger. AC charging time can take between 3 to 4 hours when the battery is totally drained. When full charged, it can last up to 32 hours. The internal memory of the device can store about 300 hours of records that can last about 30 days of recording.

The device also comes with the water-resistant pouch that is designed to be used with a small padlock. Using a padlock with the pouch will prevent the ATLAS+ Trip Recorder from being turned off accidentally or intentionally. Although I find it a bit odd to use while it is attached to my belt as the padlock is a bit noticeable/big, maybe its best for vehicles or get a smaller lock if you're not used to it.

Features / Highlights
  • Easy to use - user carries the ATLAS+ recorder whenever he goes. No need to press or operate anything.
  • Easy to review - playback of recorded trips is shown graphically on any map, not as a text.
  • Portable & Versatile - smaller than a basic cellphone, the GPS recorder is battery powered and can be used to monitor personnel or vehicles
  • Large storage capacity - internal memory can store over 30 days worth of recorded trips
  • Works anywhere in the Philippines - since it relies on GPS signals, it will work in Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas & Mindanao or in fact it wil work anywhere in the world

Trip Replay Application
So after the trip being recorded here comes the part where you can really monitor where the person had been to. The Trip Replay is the software that you can install from the CD inside the box although it is compatible only to Windows 7 and below Windows OS, I have tried installing it on Windows 8 and it crashes all the time, even in compatibility mode.

The above image is the starting screen you can see upon opening the app.

To sync the device to the PC, you should connect the USB from the device to the computer and click the sync button in the program and the above dialog box will appear as reading the data.

You can see the recorded track/s in the pop-up window and click OK to download it on the PC.

The route of the first trip I made by using the device is showed in the map on the left and I clicked the Speed / Time tab to see the graph of the active time and where I stopped while in the car. As you can see, it accurately recorded all of my actions and can easily monitor where I have been to. You can even click a Play button to see a real-time like preview of a moving dot on a map how the device has traveled including the speed and time.

This last part is the configurations part where you can change a particular setting of the application. The software is pretty straightforward and easy to use.

Verdict
The ATLAS+ Trip Recorder is a great offline GPS tracker solution to record company personnel or vehicle trips accurately. You can also easily verify if a person was indeed going on the places he/she is supposed to visit and thus you can easily monitor the activities of the user and to make the work to be a lot more productive.
