Carmakers are investing billions of dollars to add new technologies that, it turns out, are not being utilized by many of the owners of those vehicles. In fact, the survey finds that at least 20-percent of new-vehicle owners have never used 16 of the 33 technology features measured.

When it comes to used cars, which features are likely to make or break a sale? Carmudi, the easiest way to buy and sell your car online, has analyzed data based on hundreds and thousands of global listings uploaded to the company’s car classifieds website to determine the most in-demand features worldwide.

The Philippines was the only Carmudi country where tinted windows made the list of in-demand features. Twenty-seven percent of cars sold on Carmudi Philippines have tinted windows. In car entertainment is more advanced in the Philippines than in other Carmudi countries. Forty-five percent of cars sold in the Philippines are ipod/MP3 compatible, compared to 36-percent in Indonesia and 34-percent in Vietnam.

One feature that varied wildly in terms of popularity worldwide was an alarm system. Forty-eight percent  of vehicles sold in the Philippines featured a car alarm, as did 57-percent in Indonesia. As a comparison, in both Bangladesh and Pakistan, only 7-percent of vehicles sold featured an alarm system.

Subir Lohani, managing director of Carmudi Philippines, said, “Technology plays a big role in our society. Car buyers nowadays want more self-driving technologies rather than picking up the best color of their car.”

“In the Philippines, we found out that motorists still prefered safety and convenience”, adds Lohani.
