On September 30, Microsoft is set to release the Technical Preview of Windows 9. Days before the event, The Verge released screenshots of the next version of Microsoft Office highlighting its new features.

Based on the images, Microsoft Office 16 features a very dark theme. Microsoft added the black theme to the existing grey, dark grey and white theme options. According to Microsoft, the black theme is the most requested feature for Office 2013.

Another feature is the addition of the Clippy-like helper called the "Tell Me" assistant. The assistant is found in the desktop version of the Office Online apps. Unlike the Clippy, the "Tell Me" assistant doesn't have an animation. It's just a search bar with a bulb icon on the side to indicate its presence in documents. You can find it at the top of documents that serves as Help and Search tool.
